Spider Excavator stick extension

The end of this stick extension is a combination of slightly under engineered and fatigued which means it had gotten to the point of needing repairs a few times a year. We decided to do some surgery on it, cutting out the bad section and splicing in a heavier piece of plate with hopes that it will stiffen things up enough to stop the flexing and cracking. Because its a sliding extension the welds need to be ground and no extra reinforcement can be added to the outside for most of the area in question.

Over all this was a fun job, making things better instead just fixing the same cracks is always nice and it turned out pretty nice. Time will tell if we have a good long term fix or have just found the next weakest link....
